I'm Mary, an Auckland based Design Director / Senior Designer who has been working in a freelance capacity for the past 9 years (with a fair amount of time being a 'perma-lancer' in my favourite agencies). My core expertise is primarily focused on packaging and visual brand design. I have often been in a strategic position across large projects which involved guiding the brands from project inception to financial success within both retail and corporate environments. I also have 12 years small business management experience in my own agency overseeing multiple staff, clients and stakeholders.

Possibly the most important skill for a designer or marketer. I especially enjoy the challenge of a project with complex and specific requirements.
Strategic thinking
It doesn’t matter is a design looks beautiful if it isn’t fit for purpose. Thinking strategically allows the work to communicate in a way that gives the client a competitive advantage. I design with brand positioning, user experience, and market trends in mind.
Clear communication
I enjoy presenting work and can rationalise the design and marketing process to even the most skeptical client. I’m used to presenting to large rooms of stakeholders all with their own needs and opinions to guide them through the creative process.
Collaboration
Nothing is more satisfying than working collaboratively and seeing a shared project come to life, whether it’s with other designers or with a creative team comprising copywriters, videographers, producers, project managers and stakeholders.
